Eyelash Extensions
Posted by Beauty Source on Dec 16th 2019
Having beautiful long eyelashes is a beauty trend that has been around forever. To achieve that look, women would apply a strip of fake eyelashes to the lash line with glue. Although this method did work, it did not look natural and was time consuming. With evolving times and new methods, eyelash extensions were born.
What Are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash extension is a method where synthetic, faux mink, or silk fibers are glued to your individual lash strand by strand to give you fuller, longer lashes. It allows for customizable depth, length, shape for your face, and eyes giving them a more natural look.
How Long Do They Last?
Unlike traditional strip fake eyelashes, lash extensions are semi-permanent. Since they’re attached to each individual lash, they will last a full shedding cycle and fall out naturally with your own lashes. The cycle of eyelash growth is about six to eight weeks. It is recommended that you touch-up every three to four weeks to maintain good looking lashes.
How Long Does It Take To Apply Eyelash Extension?
A full set of lashes can take up to two hours, depending on how full you want your extensions to look. Since the extensions are applied to each individual eyelash strand, clients have the option to choose a half set where it is only applied to 50 to 60 percent of the lashes. Recommendations will also be given to you based on the health of your eyelashes as to how full and long you should get them to maintain your natural eyelash health.

How Much Does It Cost?
The main drawback of eyelash extensions is the cost. Prices vary from $150 - $250 with maintenance and refills ranging from $55 - $65 every 2-3 weeks. As you can see, it can get quite pricey.
How To Maintain Eyelash Extensions
After spending all that money on eyelash extensions, proper maintenance is important to prolong the life of them.
- Avoid getting them wet within the first 48 hours.
- Use mascara only on the tip of the extensions. Applying at the base will result in clumpy-looking eyelashes.
- Do not use water-resistant mascara.
- Do not use oil-based products on your eyelash extensions.
- Brush excess water out of the lashes after swimming.
- Do not use a mechanical eyelash curler. Use a heated curler instead.
As you can see, eyelash extensions are a great alternative to achieving longer, fuller-looking eyelashes without the everyday hassle of applying strip lashes or layering your mascara to get the effect. Is it worth it? Hopefully, the information above will help you determine that.
